OVAL is proud to announce that the OVAL Adapt has been named a winner of the 2026 Technology Designer Magazine Performance Home Awards, recognizing OVAL Adapt as an innovative addition to the evolving category of high-performance home technology.
Presented by Technology Designer Magazine, the annual Performance Home Awards recognize advances in technology, design, and the integration of high-performance solutions into modern residential environments. This year's selections span lighting, display, audio, shading, security, ventilation, and whole-home control. OVAL Adapt brings sleep and recovery technology into this broader performance home landscape.
Bringing Performance Home Technology Into the Bedroom
Smart home technology has transformed how we control lighting, climate, shades, entertainment, security, and air quality. Yet the bedroom has traditionally remained largely outside this evolution.
Technology Designer's citation framed the bedroom as the last room in the performance home without a system built to control comfort, rest, and recovery.
OVAL Adapt was designed to change that.
Rather than treating the bed as a passive part of the home, the OVAL Adapt turns the sleeping environment into an active part of a high-performance home. It combines thermal conditioning, physiological sensing, and native smart home integration to create a more responsive environment for sleep and recovery.
Designed Around the Body, Not Just the Room
Traditional home climate systems are designed primarily around the temperature of a room. But sleep is a more personal experience. Comfort varies from person to person, and the body's thermal needs can change throughout the night.
OVAL Adapt takes a different approach by bringing temperature control directly to the sleep surface.
The system uses the Adapt Layer, placed on top of an existing mattress, together with the Adapt Hub to actively manage the sleeping environment. OVAL Adapt uses water and thermoelectric circulation to precisely deliver heating and cooling through the sleep surface.
The Adapt Layer is divided into four independently controlled zones, with two zones on each side of the bed. Each sleeper can control the temperature of their own side, while the upper and lower zones allow different temperature settings across the body.
This means two people can sleep at different temperatures in the same bed—and each person can further personalize temperature between the upper and lower body.
From Monitoring to Action
Sleep technology has taught people to measure their nights. OVAL Adapt was designed around a different principle.
Sensing in the Layer reads the sleeper through the night, and the system responds in turn — adjusting as the body settles into sleep, and continuing to respond through the hours that follow rather than holding a single setting until morning. Over time, it learns. Rather than asking the sleeper to find the right setting, OVAL Adapt is designed to learn from temperature preferences and overnight signals, refining its adjustments over time.
The intent is a system that does the work without input by default — nothing to schedule, nothing to dial in each night — while still leaving on-bed controls and the app on hand for anyone who wants to adjust it directly.
From Smart Home to Responsive Home
The recognition from Technology Designer Magazine reflects a broader evolution in residential technology.
As smart home systems become increasingly integrated into the architecture of the home, the goal is no longer simply to add more connected devices. Technology is becoming more focused on creating environments that respond naturally to the people living in them.
This is the direction OVAL believes the bedroom should move toward.
The future of the performance home isn't only about controlling the room. It's about creating an environment that can respond to the person.
By bringing active temperature management and physiological sensing into the sleep environment, OVAL Adapt extends the idea of a responsive home into one of the most important spaces for daily recovery.
A Recognition of a New Category of Sleep Technology
Being named a 2026 Technology Designer Magazine Performance Home Award is an important milestone for OVAL as we continue to explore what intelligent sleep technology can become.
For us, OVAL Adapt is more than a temperature-controlled layer & Hub. It represents a different way of thinking about the relationship between people, technology, and the environments in which they sleep and recover.
We believe the next generation of high-performance homes will not stop at making homes smarter.
They will make them more responsive to the people inside them.
